Chester will welcome some of the best paracyclists in the country when it hosts British Cycling’s Paracycling National Championships on the weekend of 22nd and 23rd July. Run by British Cycling, hosted by Chester Road Club and kindly sponsored by Pearson Financial Management, the events promise some high class cycling on display as riders battle it out for the honour of winning one of the national jerseys on offer.

The championships will begin with the time trial on the Saturday which is taking place around Saighton. The Saighton loop has been used for many years as a time trial circuit by local cycling clubs, owing to its simplicity on quiet country roads without any nasty climbs to contend with. The time trial start line is located just opposite the beautiful Abbey Gate College and the racing will begin at 9am.

The following day will see the road circuit race take place at the purpose-built Marsh Tracks facility in Rhyl which is a closed circuit. It’s a challenging circuit when the wind is coming off the sea and often delivers some exciting and fast racing as the track is flat and flowing. Racing will begin at 11am to allow competitors and spectators to travel over from Chester.

Event organiser and Chester Road Club member Martin Christmas said, “Whilst racing for a National Championship jersey is likely to be more competitive than ever, we are planning an event which gives a chance for old friends to get together and new friendships and rivalries to be made.” Martin added, “We hope that local people will come along and support the event and join us in welcoming the best British paracyclists to Chester.”

Neil CarterDo you have a route in mind as I quite fancy a trip to Knutsford with the Sunday Inters? My first ride with CRC was to Knutsford and it's never appeared since. Penny Farthing was great as I remember.

The Club organises a number of regular rides for beginner, intermediate and advanced ability members. Information about the ride, such as route and meeting point are posted on Strava. Our beginner and intermediate rides are run on the 'start together, finish together' mantra. It's important though that all riders are self-sufficient i.e. puncture repair kit and spare inner tubes and have good lights and mudguards where appropriate. Members are encouraged to wear Club kit for these rides. Non-members are welcome to ride with us but we ask you join the Club on the fourth occasion.

Our advanced level rides will only wait for those who suffer mechanical problems. You will be expected to be able to navigate your own way home if you are dropped from the group.
